These Banana Chocolate Chip Cookies are a delightful cross between banana bread and a chocolate chip cookie.

Banana Chocolate Chip Cookies

These cookies have the chew of a chocolate chip cookie, yet the flavor of banana bread. Chocolate chips balance out the sweetness of the cookies, making them a joy to eat!

Bananas are a great food. They’re healthy, kids generally love them, and when they get overripe, they have yet another wonderful use! Not only do I love these qualities of the banana, but I also love that they are an “any time of year” kind of fruit, or dessert, if you choose to turn them into treats, like I do.

This recipe is a delicious one for using up those super ripe bananas. I always have them, if you’re like me, you do, as well.

You and your kiddos will both enjoy these cookies. They’re easy to make, don’t require any chill time, or any special equipment. They’re also LOADED with chocolate chips! Who doesn’t love that?!

Ingredients:

  • Butter, softened
  • Brown sugar
  • Egg
  • Banana
  • Vanilla
  • All-purpose flour
  • Baking soda
  • Baking powder
  • Salt
  • Ground cinnamon
  • Nutmeg
  • Semi-sweet chocolate chips

Steps:

1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

2. On a plate, mash your banana really well, using a fork. This is a great spot for the kiddos to jump in and help!

3. In a large mixing bowl, cream together softened butter and brown sugar.

4. Add the mashed banana, the egg and vanilla, and stir to combine.

5. In a smaller mixing bowl, add the flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg, whisking together well.

6. Combine the flour mixture with the butter mixture, mixing until just combined. The dough is pretty sticky, that’s normal.

7. Add the bag of chocolate chips and mix well.

8. Using spoons or a cookie dough baller, spoon about 1.5 tablespoon sized balls of the dough onto baking sheets lined with parchment paper, placing each ball roughly 2″ apart.

9. Bake for 9-12 minutes. These cook dark, making it difficult to tell if they’re done or not. You aren’t looking for golden brown in color. I slide a metal spatula under one cookie, and if it starts to lift without breaking, I remove them from the oven.

10. Let cool on the baking sheets for about 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack. These cookies bake soft, and require more time to set fully.

11. Enjoy!
